Australian Law Firm HWL Ebsworth Faces Data Breach by Russian Hackers

Australian Legal Law Firm confirmed it was hit by a ransomware attack linked to a Russian hacking group. The hacker’s group, ALPVH or BlackCat, claimed they stole nearly 4 Terabytes of data.

The stolen data includes clients’ confidential information, the company’s data, and many more things.

According to a recent study by Palo Alto Networks, an American cybersecurity firm, BlackCat is one of the top three groups targeting Australian firms.

These groups have been active since 2021, affecting mostly Australia in the Pacific region. The Law Firm made a statement in the media saying, “On Friday, we became aware that an unauthorized party was claiming to have the confidential information of the firm”.

Moreover, the Law Firm is currently working with Australian Cyber Security Center to investigate the data breach. For now, the firm is denying to have access to their personal information by any third-party group.
