Man Scammed $17 Million From Apple: Sentenced to 3 Years in Prison

Apple is undoubtedly one of the most innovative technology brands in the market. They care about their reputation and customers. However, in 2022, an Indian-origin man, Prasad, was charged with scamming Apple for $17 Million.

According to reports, from 2008-2018, Prasad worked as a buyer in Apple’s global supply chain. The US attorney said that Prasad made Apple pay for never received products.

The court has now ordered Prasad to pay 19 Million USD to Apple. He has been charged with defrauding Apple, including tax fraud. The report says Prasad, along with two owners of vendor companies, swindled Apple by stealing parts, fake invoices, and extorting money from Apple for the goods that were never delivered.

Prasad was responsible for handling the components for devices still under warranty. Moreover, he was familiar with Apple’s fraud detection methods. Hence, he took advantage of this, along with two companies that were Apple’s part suppliers, and scammed Apple worth $17 Million.

Former employee Prasad also took advantage of his position at Apple, giving him authority to make decisions. He was supposed to benefit the company by making the right decisions. But instead, he misused that authority to build his illegal fortune. He, unfortunately, ended up getting his agenda exposed to the company.
