Russian & Chinese Hackers Targeted European Medicines Agency Last Year

A Russian Intelligence Agency and Chinese Spies were behind the cyberattacks on the European Medicines Agency (EMA) last year. According to a Dutch newspaper, De Volkskrant, the European drug regulator had reported a cyberattack in December 2020. And they stated that its documents relating to coronavirus vaccines and medicines were stolen and leaked during the hack and then later, they were posted on the internet.

The EMA has launched an investigation with Dutch and European law enforcement authorities. Though, there are no details about who may have carried out attacks. It also informed that the EMA was hacked by Chinese spies in the first half of 2020.

The media reported that the Chinese hackers gained access to the systems of a German University. On the other hand, Russians are accused to have exploited flaws in the EMA’s two-step verification. The Russians are accused to have access to EMA’s system for more than a month.
